Risza

International Event "Observing together the desert from multiple views"

in the Biosphere of Mapimí, Durango, Mexico. October 23-25, 2018

With the international participation of speakers from France, the United States, Morocco, Argentina and Mexico, the event "Observing together the desert from multiple views" took place in the Biosphere of Mapimi to plan in a transdisiciplinary manner the project entitled "Participatory Observatories for the protection of the natural and cultural diversity of Mexican arid lands" directed by Dra. Elisabeth Huber-Sannwald in collaboration with members of the academic committee. The event had the following main objectives: 1. Learn, plan and develop the participatory observatory scheme in a collaborative multi-sectoral manner with different stakeholders. And 2. Collectively generate a transdisciplinary platform for the protection of the biological and cultural diversity in socio-ecological systems of Mexican arid lands.

RISZA participates in the 30th edition of the International Agronomy Weekin the Agronomy a Zootecnia Faculty of the UJED

RISZA participates in the Energy Network Annual Meetingthat took place in Cuernavaca, Morelos from September 24 to the 28th.

Dra. Natalia Martínez Tagüeña, member of the academic technical committee, presented a paper entitled: RISZA: Challengues and Opportunities for Research.

RISZA at the 4th National Meeting of the network "Red Temática de Aprovechamiento Integral Sustentable y Biotecnología de los Agaves (AGARED)(Thematic Network on the Integral Sustainable Use and Biotechnology of the Agave Species" in Guadalajara, October 11-13, 2017.

Dra. Elisabeth Huber-Sannwald presented the paper entitled “Red Internacional para la Sostenibilidad de las Zonas Áridas (RISZA) - una red transdisciplinaria incluyente” (International Sustainable Drylands Network (RISZA) - a transdisciplinary inclusive network" to promote the network. She also participated in several group sessions on how to co-produce knowlegde and foster collaboration.

Members of the Academic Technical Committee presented a poster on RISZA to share information on the mission, goals, objectives, current membership types, and information on gender, regional and international geographic distribution.

As Chair of the Scientific Committee of Future Earth and National Coordinator of the Global Change and Adaptations Program at CSIRO Land and Water, Canberra, Australia, Dr. Stafford Smith presented the keynote conference “Adaptation to Climate Change: Recent Developments and Implications for Drylands”. He also took the time to talk to a large multidisciplinary group of students and researchers.

At the end of the International Sustainable Drylands Meeting, RISZA organized a field trip, where mezcalero teachers shared ancestral knowledge on the traditional production of craft mezcal de campanilla.

International Sustainability Drylands Meeting

in the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (IPICYT), May 22-25, 2017.

With this meeting the international drylands network RISZA was officially launched; several national and international researchers, students, members of the government, civic associations and indigenous communities participated. The goal of the meeting was to share and co-produce knowledge relevant to the sustainable develpment of dryland regions.
